The rise of Instagram parenting, and should you unfollow it?
If you're a new parent turning to social media for every little decision about your baby, you may already be caught in the bubble of Instagram parenting.
Being a parent is tough, even tougher when you're doing it for the first time. While your heart is overflowing with love, there's also a constant worry about raising your little one the right way.

And today, when a baby refuses to eat, won't sleep, or throws a tantrum in public, many parents don't call their mother or open a parenting book any more.
From a baby's first feed to their first school admission, parenting has slowly shifted online. Scroll through your feed, and you'll find answers to almost everything you think you need to know: what foods to introduce at six months, how to help your child sleep through the night, how to handle meltdowns calmly, and even how to speak to them so they grow up emotionally secure.

Whether we like it or not, Instagram has unofficially become the new parenting manual.

Earlier, parents turned to elders, doctors, or books for guidance. Today, they turn to influencers. Ask any new parent, and they're likely following multiple accounts focused on topics from baby-led weaning and gentle parenting to toddler behaviour and speech development.

There's no shortage of baby-related content online, all promising to guide you through every stage. And, for overwhelmed parents, this can feel like an instant solution. Think of it like this: instead of waiting for a doctor's appointment at an odd hour to clear a silly doubt you had in your mind, you just type in your concern, and within seconds, hundreds of videos appear to help you find a solution.

The thing about Instagram parenting is that it's available 24/7. That's exactly what makes it so addictive. But the real question is, is it truly helping parents, or just adding more pressure?

Take, for example, one of the biggest Instagram parenting categories: baby food. Perfect reels show colourful plates of beetroot pancakes, spinach paratha, mini idli pizzas, and sugar-free desserts, all for a two-year-old.

There was another star from the Mantena-Gadiraju wedding: The men's jewellery

India Today got exclusive access to some of the most striking jewels worn not just by groom Vamsi Gadiraju, but also by the father of the bride, Rama Raju Mantena, each crafted by jewellery designer Sunita Shekhawat.

Let’s just say the Mantena–Gadiraju wedding might be over, but the curiosity around it isn’t going anywhere. And why would it? Touted as India’s most expensive wedding of 2025, the buzz hasn’t faded even days after the last firework. If anything, it’s only grown louder. People want the unseen details, the craftsmanship, the stories behind the heirloom-level pieces — and India Today has exactly that.

We got exclusive access to some of the most striking jewels worn not just by groom Vamsi Gadiraju, but also by the father of the bride, Rama Raju Mantena, each crafted by Sunita Shekhawat, Jaipur-based jeweller and founder of the Museum of Meenakari Heritage (MOMH).

At the heart of this rare collection is the jigha worn by Vamsi, an ornament traditionally placed on a turban. Inspired by a late 18th-century drawing by Terhaswamiran Naarayanuj of Jaipur, the piece pays homage to royal ateliers and India’s deep design legacy. Handcrafted at the Sunita Shekhawat atelier, the jigha blends gold, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and luminous enamel — a combination that brings old-world charm into the trousseau of a modern-day groom. Paired with Vamsi’s red sherwani (one of the pre-wedding looks), the jigha elevated the red safa beautifully, giving him an unmistakably regal presence.
For the Cirque de Mehendi, Vamsi switched to a crisp ivory jacket embellished with multicoloured crystal work and finished the look with a parrot brooch by Shekhawat. Meticulously handcrafted in gold and adorned with precious stones, pearls, and delicate en ronde bosse enamel, the piece was a contemporary nod to India’s grand turban ornaments, refined, intimate, and instantly striking.

Another piece from Sunita Shekhawat collection was the sarpech that the bride’s father, Rama Raju Mantena wore. It traced its roots to the Deccan courts. Diamonds, gold, silver, and intricate enamel came together to recreate the prestige of early 18th-century adornments.

Crafted by the atelier with permissions from global museums, the sarpech served as a reminder of how India once dressed its nobility — and how those traditions continue to shape modern celebrations.

The Mantena–Gadiraju wedding had swiftly become the country’s most talked-about celebration. The union unfolded over multiple days of extravagance, precision planning, and unabashed luxury. The sprawling venues, couture wardrobes, rare jewels, and spectacle-driven themes that made every event look straight out of a cinematic universe. Guests were treated to immersive experiences, from a Cirque-inspired mehendi to opulent wedding rituals steeped in tradition yet elevated with modern grandeur.

Every detail — from personalised decor to heritage-rooted jewellery commissioned specially for the groom and families — signalled that the Mantena and Gadiraju clans weren’t just hosting a wedding; they were curating a cultural moment. Even now, long after the celebrations have wrapped, the curiosity refuses to die down, with people still piecing together details from the headline-grabbing affair.

IND vs SA: Did Virat Kohli snub Gautam Gambhir after Ranchi ODI?

IND vs SA: Is there a tension brewing between two of India's most senior players and Gautam Gambhir? Eagle-eyed fans have spotted Virat Kohli potentially snubbing Gambhir after the 1st ODI.

Virat Kohli appears to have snubbed head coach Gautam Gambhir at the end of the first ODI against South Africa, as murmurs of a possible rift continue to circulate in certain sections of the media. Eagle-eyed fans spotted an incident involving Kohli and the head coach on Sunday, November 30, which quickly became a talking point online.

The moment occurred when Kohli, who played a match-winning innings against South Africa, was walking toward the dressing room after the hosts secured a 17-run victory in Ranchi. It looked like Kohli noticed Gautam Gambhir sitting beside the dressing room door but walked past without shaking hands or even acknowledging the head coach. This clip triggered immediate speculation.

Dainik Bhaskar on Monday reported that there was unease between the two senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The report suggested that Rohit and Virat, both having retired from T20Is and Tests, are united in their effort to extend their ODI careers and secure their spots in the format.

The daily also claimed that Kohli and Gambhir did not have any conversations during India’s net sessions in Ranchi, further fuelling the speculation.

However, fans who watched the match carefully debunked the theory. They posted another video that showed Kohli giving a brief side-hug to Gambhir at the end of the game, indicating that the two did acknowledge each other and that the viral clip did not tell the full story.

The Indian cricket team is currently navigating a crucial transition phase. With Rohit at 38 and Kohli at 37, both players have only a limited number of years left in international cricket. They are believed to be pushing for one final ICC event, the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Gautam Gambhir-led Indian management has refused to confirm their participation in the tournament and has consistently stated that the selection call will be taken closer to the event.

If the Ranchi ODI was any indication, Virat Kohli seems to have adopted a new batting approach in ODI cricket. He placed greater emphasis on boundary hitting rather than relying heavily on quick singles and aggressive running between the wickets.

Kohli’s fearless intent helped him score a terrific hundred, which formed the bedrock of India’s victory on Sunday.

Gold ETF assets top Rs 1L cr mark, silver hits Rs 40,000 cr; what Zerodha Fund House says

Till October, total net inflows in Gold ETFs in 2025 crossed Rs 27,500 crore. The 10-month inflow this year is higher than the net inflows of the last five years (2020-2024) combined.
The total asset under management (AUM) of gold ETFs in India crossed Rs 1L crore mark in the first ten months of Calendar 2025. This surge, matched by a spike in new investor accounts, showed that the ETF route is becoming the preferred choice for Indian gold investors, Zerodha Fund House said in a note. The digital only passive fund house cited gold role as a strategic long-term investment and a foundational allocation in a well-diversified portfolio and said the 2025 data tells a decisive story driven by record inflows and a price rally.

Till October, total net inflows in Gold ETFs in 2025 crossed Rs 27,500 crore. The 10-month inflow this year is higher than the net inflows of the last five years (2020-2024) combined.

"This surge indicates that investors have moved beyond physical possession and recognizing Gold ETFs as the more efficient vehicle since this modern solution not only eliminates storage hassles and making charges but also offers a tax advantage - a shorter holding period to qualify for the 12.5 per cent LTCG tax rate compared to physical gold," Zerodha said.

Zerodha said gold ETF investor folios are up by 12 times in the last five years.

"The Gold ETF folios have gone up from 7.83 Lakhs in October 2020 to more than 95 Lakhs in October 2025. This growth is fueled by the removal of capital barriers. With unit prices for Gold ETFs now as low as approximately Rs 20, the commodity has become accessible to all investors. This empowers investors - regardless of capital - to use gold as a core tool for wealth creation, with the assurance that every unit is backed by physical gold of 99.5 per cent purity or higher," it said.

Alongside the inflow of capital, the AUM in Gold ETFs more than doubling within the span of a single year. Furthermore, Indian Gold ETFs now hold more than 83 tonnes of physical gold, with nearly a third of this reserve added in 2025 alone. This also serves as a reminder that Gold ETFs are not merely financial instruments but are also fully backed by the precious metal vaulted in storage facilities, Zerodha said.

"This tangible backing may address a primary concern of a few buyers, bridging the trust gap between digital convenience and physical storage," it said.

As investors become more comfortable with investing in commodities in the ETF format, the acceptance is naturally extending to silver as well.

Zerodha said since the first ETF launch in 2022, Silver ETFs have also witnessed a rising adoption across India. The total investor folios in Silver ETFs have reached more than 25 lakhs as of October 2025 with an AUM of more than Rs 40,000 crore.

Vishal Jain, CEO, Zerodha Fund House, said, “I vividly remember being part of the team that first conceptualized the idea of Gold ETFs back in 2002. It was a long road from concept to reality; when we launched in 2007, it took us nearly two and a half years just to see the AUM reach ₹1,000 crores. To see that the product category which was once an idea we believed in - has now crossed the ₹1 Lakh Crore milestone, is incredibly humbling for me. It is a heartening validation that if you offer funds that are straightforward and meaningful, they will eventually find their place in investor’s portfolios.”
